John. Can you please address the issue of possible nationalization of silver mines by Mexico.

Not to discourage the intrepid, but I would add "corruption" to JR's list of issues ("the uncertainties of language, law, and finance").

My only experience is in the sale of a house in the Dominican Republic a few years ago and my main advice is try to find a trusted person who lives where you want to buy and is connected. Otherwise, chances are you'll be sold a bill of goods or - at best - just pay a lot of grift. (The good thing is "a lot" is relative. You'd be surprised how much a hundred bucks can buy, but you're dealing with dumb asses and all that implies.)

The possible situations are beyond any honest American's imagination or belief, which is something to consider when deciding to live there at all. I still think it's true that if the US gets a cold the rest of the world gets the flu, and 3rd world "paradises" revert to the mean. Sometimes it's better to deal with the devil you know.

We´re about to approach our third foreign destination purchase of RE. From the past experience I would strongly recommend, to take your time and spend it in that destination your having an eye on. Agencies might be helpful at some point but their main target is your wallet. And commonly there is an even bigger gap in knowledge between those who offer and those who seek than on the better known home market.

If there´s any interest I might share a few hints to get started.

If anyone is looking for either a coffee farm (250 acres) or a hotel (14 rooms with in-ground pool, manager's suite, and manager) in Nicaragua. I have them for sale.

And you don´t feel any shame violating the purpose of this blog for your personal interests?

I didn't see it that way at all. I figure if John does, he will let me know. I have been reading his material for years.
