Successful gold/silver exploration companies might have the highest upside potential of any category of investment. But the vast majority of explorers never make it to “successful.” Most disappear without a trace, sending their investors’ capital to money heaven.
So you don’t want too much exposure to such companies. But if you’ve seen one of these stocks go from completely unknown to huge winner, you know the impact that a 10-bagger can have on a portfolio.
So it makes sense to own a few explorers both for the drama and for the potential upside if they work out.
These five relatively advanced explorers have done most of the necessary work to move on to “developer” status — where they build and operate their own mine — or “high-priced acquisition” if a senior miner makes them an offer they can’t refuse. Nothing is guaranteed, but these explorers are less likely than most to just fade away, and more likely to have a happy ending.
