This newsletter’s first year was about introducing big themes and compiling a list of stocks and strategies that illustrate those themes. Now it’s time for a weekly series of bite-sized starter portfolios that put these ideas into practice.

Let’s begin with a Very Important Disclaimer: These portfolios are for after you’ve stacked and safely stored enough gold and/or silver coins and bars to see you through a crazy year (which is coming soon). A “how to buy bullion” primer is due out next week.

Once the stacking is out of the way, the next step is to branch out along the spectrum that runs from physical to purely financial. Today’s 5-stock portfolio is comprised of physical ETFs which acquire and store commodities and allow investors to buy shares of their holdings. They’re less certain than direct personal ownership, but still (barring a Great Taking scenario) pretty safe ways to add exposure to physical commodities. The following two posts provide more detail.
